Is it still worth it?

SiteGround earns its price in a few ways: excellent 24/7 support by chat, phone and ticket; fast hosting on Google Cloud; and its free Speed Optimizer and Security Optimizer plugins. If you'd rather pay for that than troubleshoot yourself, $17.99 can be fair.
