How we rate web hosts
Every host gets a score from 1 to 10 on five criteria. The overall score is a weighted average, with the most weight on speed and uptime.
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Speed and uptime | 30% | Server stack, caching and CDN, data-center choice, published uptime guarantee, and independent speed tests. |
| Support | 20% | 24/7 availability, channels (chat, phone, tickets), WordPress expertise of the agents, and response times reported by customers. |
| Value | 20% | What you get per dollar, and how much the price jumps at renewal. Intro-only discounts are judged on the renewal price. |
| Features and security | 20% | Staging, backups, free SSL, malware scanning, firewall, free migrations, and developer tools. |
| Ease of use | 10% | Signup, dashboard, one-click WordPress setup, and how fast a beginner can get a site live. |
We judge price on renewal, not the intro deal
Many hosts advertise a low first-term price that jumps two to four times at renewal. Our value score uses what you'll pay after the first term, and every review shows both prices.
Where our information comes from
- Each host's own pricing, plan and terms pages.
- Published uptime guarantees and status pages.
- Independent speed and support testing reported by trusted reviewers.
- Company news on ownership changes, outages and price increases.
- Hands-on testing. Reviews that include our own test say so at the top; the rest are marked research-based until our test is done.
Every review lists its sources at the bottom. Prices were last checked in October 2026. They change often, so always confirm at checkout.
What doesn't affect scores
We earn commissions from hosts when readers sign up through our links. Commissions never change a score or a ranking. See our affiliate disclosure.
